2012 Rôtie Cellars Northern Blend

Estate: Rôtie Cellars

Region: Walla Walla Valley, Washington State, United States of America

Tasting Note:May 04, 2017

Waiting for my girlfriends to arrive in Vegas for my 25th birthday celebration. Decided to go downstairs to La Cave in the Wynns to grab some food and something to drink.

Deep violet straight out of the bottle. Layered nose with cocoa leaves, mulberry, purple fruits and a hint of toastiness. Moderate tannins (5/10) with a heavy body. Needed some time to open up, started off quite fruity with an odd metallic finish. Around an hour or so in it finally opened up with notes of darker fruits, dark chocolate, and slate. Balanced acidity and improved with food. Long dry finish with a bit of heat.

The 2012 Northern Blend from Rôtie Cellars is made up of 97% Syrah and 3% Viognier. All the fruit is co-fermented and aged between 14 to 16 months in 2nd and 3rd fill French oak barrels. Only 950 cases produced and 14.2% alcohol.
