2012 Futo 5500

Estate: Futo Wines

Region: Stags Leap District, Napa Valley, California, United States of America

Tasting Note:October 07, 2015

Quite a curvy little road and step driveway to make it up to the Futo estate, but it is an amzingly beautiful estate. The architecture itself was amazing. India and I were lucky enough to get a little tour around the vineyard and see the fermentation room before starting the tasting. Since we have the Oakville on order we were able to taste the SLD. The color is a dark ruby red with a slight purple hue. Definitely a fruit forward aroma, beautiful with red fruits, especially cherries. With the bouquet there was done bitter dark chocolate, tobacco and one of my personal favorites, leather. Body and mouthfeel is beautifully balanced with some wonderful structure. Strong tannins that are smooth and round. Long masculine finish all is well integrated. I would love to try this side by side with the Oakville Futo. Additionally it would be amazing to try with some age on it. This wine had 1.5 hr decant. Additionally it was our first time using Zalto glasses, we honestly thought they were going to break everyone we put them down. Great experience and beautiful estate!
