2012 Witchery Oakville Cabernet Sauvignon

Third of the blind tasting for Father's Day weekend.
Dark purplish ruby red. Dark fruits on the nose with notes of forest floor and some aged characteristics of mushrooms. Solid acidity and heavy tannins (7/10). Rich palate on the attack with black fruits. Opened up to some anise, a touch aged, earthiness and some minerality. Medium plus body and long finish.
Made by Grant Long Jr. of Aonair Wines. Will leave our last bottle for a few years. Hopefully this will improve with age. Aged in 75% new French oak. Blend of 94% Cabernet Sauvignon, 4% Cabernet Franc and 2% Petit Verdot. Only 200 cases produced (8 barrels) and 14.8% alcohol.

Very complex nose with layers of cassis, a touch savory with some meaty notes, some boysenberry, sweet spices and cinnamon. A touch dirty at the end too. Heavy tannins (7/10). Extracted and quaffable. Fruit is powerful throughout the wine. Smooth, silky, velvety and plush.
