Region: Oak Knoll District, Napa Valley, North Coast, California, United States of America
Vineyard: Moulds Family Vineyard

Tasting Note:June 02, 2017

Tasted up against the 2014 Round Pond Left Bank Blend. This wine is still a baby, did not show up like the last bottle we tried. It must be in one of those shut down phases, we hope. Deep purplish ruby red. Nose is coated in sweet spices and blueberries on the attack. A little bit of white pepper too with an odd touch of perfumey greenery. A touch stinky too. Heavy rounded tannins (7/10) and medium to full bodied. Dark berries on the palate but it needed around three hours to finally start opening up on the palate. Long and lingering finish. Will probably leave our next bottle for another two to three years before trying another.

Seems like this bottle has gone into a sleeping phase. Will wait a couple years before trying again. The fruit for this reserve bottling is from the Moulds Family Vineyard which is owned and farmed by Steve Moulds. Here Steve growns Cabernet Sauvignon and a little bit of Cabernet Franc over his 10 acre vineyard. Other notable wineries using fruit from this vineyard include: Merus, Boyd Family, Zeitgeist, Dakota Shy, Behrens Family and Empreinte Wines.

So close to being WOTN but just beat out by the 2010 Buccella. Deep and dark ruby red. Tons of cassis, blackberries, and thick baking spices. A little something dirty too almost like a strong cheese. Heavy tannins (8/10) with a powerful body, close to the Buccella but needs time to beef up a bit. Lots of cinnamon, cloves, vanilla, cassis and black raspberries on the palate. Killer structure and lots of balance for being so young. Super long finish. So good we had to go back and order the rest of our allocation! Approachable now but needs a couple hour decant.

This is our first time trying a wine from Becklyn Cellars and we were definitely impressed. This was shooting on all cylinders and cannot wait to try one again.
