2005 GOLFO 8

Estate: GOLFO

Region: Vino de Mesa, Spain

Tasting Note:April 28, 2017

Deep garnet red. Port-like nose and dark with slight earthiness and raisins. Loamy soil like characteristics on the palate with dark red berries. Medium tannins (6.5/10) and medium bodied. Dry overall feel. Long finish.

The last red wine tasted blind at our quarterly wine club tasting. The white wine options were either Chardonnay or Chenin Blanc, while the red wine options were Spainish Tempranillo or Cabernet Sauvignon. Very interesting concept since this is a bottling made as a collaboration between winemakers in Spain. All fruit comes from the Vino de Mesa area which means that it technically cannot be labelled as a vintage bottling. Additionally this received over 12 months in French oak.
