2014 Assuli Winery Astolfo

Estate: Assuli Winery

Region: Sicily, Italy

Tasting Note:January 22, 2017

Medium pale yellow. Plus nose with roses, oak, wet grass, white floral notes, stone fruits, a bit nutty and dark citrus notes. Moderate acidity (6.5/10) and fresh palate. Ripe apples, melon, mild butter, and oddly asparagus. Medium plus bodied with a long finish. Delicious bottle of Grillo.

Last of the three whites we received from Assuli Winery, but only one from their Premium line-up. This bottling is made of 100% Grillo, is a white varietal originally from the island of Sciliy where this is produced. Additionally this wine is Terre Siciliane IGT which is the same as DOC or Denominazione di Origine Controllata. 25% of the fruit is aged in neutral French oak barriques sur lees for 6 months and then gets an additional 3 or 4 months in the bottle.
