2013 Force Majeure Collaboration Series IV Ciel du Cheval Vineyard

Estate: Force Majeure Vineyards
Region: Red Mountain, Columbia Valley, Washington State, United States of America
Vineyard: Ciel du Cheval Vineyard

Tasting Note:December 16, 2016

Third red of the evening. Deep garnet red. Needs time, slight portiness and whiskey on the nose. Dark fruits and figs too. Tasted blind but reminded us straight away of the 2009 Force Majeure IV we had earlier last year. Moderate tannins (6/10) and full bodied. A little cherry liquor and dark cocoa on the palate. Long finish and the nose is a bit off-putting. This needs time to mellow out.

These wines by Force Majeure are very interesting, especially the Collaboration Series. Each wine in the Collaboration Series (there are seven of them) are made by a different winemaker in a different style. Collaboration Series IV is made by Carolyn Lakewold using 72% Merlot, 16% Cabernet Sauvignon, 8% Cabernet Franc and 4% Petit Verfot in a Merlot led Right Bank Style. Carolyn Lakewold is the winemaker and co-founder at Donedei Wines, making Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot.
