2013 Rudius Cabernet Sauvignon Panek Vineyard

Estate: Rudius Wines
Region: St. Helena, Napa Valley, California, United States of America
Vineyard: Panek Vineyard

Tasting Note:October 14, 2016

First wine we have tried from Rudius Wines and what a treat it was. Super dark ruby red with dark purplish hues. Completely coats the glass, high viscosity. Very tight to start on the nose with slight vegetal nuances and some more of black current, cinnamon, pencil shavings and some purple flowers. As it opened up over day two it grew into deeper dark berries, anise, baking spices and dark cocoa. Furry mouthfeel with notes of cloves, black cherries and some minerality. Moderate tannins (7.5/10) and full bodied. Developed some darker fruits and light savory characteristics. Drier than expected in the long finish. 92 is only a starting point this will only get better with age.

The Panek Vineyard is a very interesting vineyard that was developed when the Napa River was straightened in the 1960s. When this happened all the river rock was dumped on a vineyard giving it an insanely unique terroir compared to any other valley floor vineyard. Made entirely of Cabernet Sauvignon and grown at an elevation of 50 feet.
