2012 Vilafonté Seriously Old Dirt

Estate: Vilafonté Luxury Wines
Region: Paarl, Coastal Region, South Africa
Vineyard: Vilafonté Vineyard

Tasting Note:March 12, 2016

Ruby red, deep and dark core. Started off a little musty like dried mushrooms and a little earthy on the nose. Opened up to some light red fruit undertones. Quite a bit of acidity. Lots of red cherries, moderate tannins (6/10), body started thin but started beefing up a bit. Definitely seemed fuller on day two. Tannins still strong. Lots of cherries. Long and lingering, dry finish. Decanted for 2 hours. Definitely needs some more time to fully integrate.

Inaugural vintage of this new Bordeaux-styled blend from the Vilafonté Vineyards in Paarl.
