2014 Two Shepherds Trousseau Gris

Estate: Two Shepherds Wine
Region: Russian River Valley, Sonoma County, California, United States of America
Vineyard: Fanucchi Vineyard

Tasting Note:July 08, 2016

First orange wine we have ever tried and love what William does with this. Orangey pink with medium intensity. Nose started off a little dirty with some candied apples, burnt toast and some petrol. Definitely has some oak influences. On day two it added in some smoked and savory notes. Bright moderate acidity (7/10) that rounded out on day two with some citrus and tight raspberries. A little dirty too with some hay. Light and crisp body with a little minerality leading into the long finish. Very interesting wine with some beautiful layers.

100% Trousseau Gris from the Fanucchi Vineyard in Russian River Valley. What is so special about this wine? A couple things. First off this is a varietal orignally from Jura in France, they have some very unique wines out there. This Trosseau Gris is the only planting in California, covering 10 acres and planted over 40 years ago. Additionally, this is an Orange wine, meaning it has some extended time on the skins, for this bottling, a total of 5 days. Only 125 cases produced.
