2010 Force Majeure Collaboration Series VI Ciel du Cheval Vineyard

Estate: Force Majeure Vineyards
Region: Red Mountain, Columbia Valley, Washington State, United States of America
Vineyard: Ciel du Cheval Vineyard

Tasting Note:March 31, 2016

One last wine to finish off Washington Wine Month! Wine was crimson red. Very tight on the nose even after five hours. Then started with some dark cherries, a little spicy and slightly smokey. Moderate plus tannins (7.5/10) and moderate body. A lot of acidity with pepper and dark berries. Long finish that carries the acidity. Honestly would not touch another one of these for two years. Can easily see this wine improving to a 92 or 93 when it gets time to fully integrate and smooth out.

These wines by Force Majeure are very interesting, especially the Collaboration Series. Each wine in the Collaboration Series (there are seven of them) are made by a different winemaker in a different style. Collaboration Series VI is made by James Mantone using Grenache, Syrah and Mourvedre in a Southern Rhone Style. James Mantone is the winemaker, vineyard manager and co-founder at Syncline Cellars, which is well known for their Rhone varietal wines. This vintage is a blend of 56% Mourvedre, 38% Syrah and 6% Grenache.
